The CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) is an ambitious and ongoing effort by twelve CARICOM countries (Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago) to deepen their economic integration. The data on trade point to realistic reassessments of the kind proposed. In 2014, CARICOM member countries as a whole chalked up an aggregate trade deficit of US $5.63 billion. The MDCs trade deficit was US $3.054 billion; but without the trade surplus of US $3.11 billion of Trinidad and Tobago, Trade figures recently released for 2007 show that CARICOM’s Intra-Regional Domestic Exports – reflecting the level of trade between CARICOM Member States - totalled EC$5.9 billion, or 13% of CARICOM’s total exports of EC$45.2 billion for the year.
